Dell has announced two new HDTV sets, a 50 inch plasma (W5001C) and a 32 inch LCD (W3201C). The 50 inch plasma will support HD (ATSC) and analog tuners (NTSC), 1366 x 768, 8k:1 contrast ration, and sports a $3,799 price tag.
The W3201C LCD will list for $1,799 and will also include a built-in tuner, and the same 1366 x 768 resolution as the 50 inch plasma.
Dell's involvement will help drive down the cost of HD and increase HD penetration in the market; however, there is a wide range of quality across the different HD vendors. It is too early to tell how good of a deal these Dell's are relative to the image quality.
